Varsity VB Preseason Tournament Recap

The Sharks dropped two close matches in their preseason tournament Tuesday night at Gulliver Prep. The team lost to Riviera Prep in three sets and to Gulliver Prep in two sets. The Sharks won their first set of the night but then dropped the next four.

There are a lot of new faces on the team this year and the girls are looking to gain confidence and develop their team chemistry as quickly as possible. The Sharks played hard and at times looked very good. “I’m confident we will continue to build and develop as a team. We have a lot of youth on this team but there is also a lot of talent. It may take a few weeks but I’m confident we will show steady improvement throughout the season.” stated head coach Matt Willems.

Leading the team on the night statistically was senior Thalia Iglesias and freshman Kayla Lopez. Thalia recorded 16 assists, 8 digs, 6 blocks, 4 kills, and 2 ace serves. Kayla lead the offense with 19 kills, 4 ace serves, and 11 digs.

The Sharks begin their regular season next Tuesday, August 23 with a home match against the Falcons of Palmer Trinity. We hope to see many of you in the stands cheering on the team. The JV match is set to begin at 4:00 pm with the varsity to follow at 5:30 pm.
