Looking into the Future: Coach’s perspective on fall sports

Our fall season of sports is shortly coming to an end. However, we can not forget district and regional matches are just around the corner! Let’s hear what our fall athletic coaches have to say about their thoughts or expectations for the upcoming district matches and what they are trying to achieve for their team in the near future.

“Our district tournament began this Monday. Divine Savior has been tremendously blessed over the history of the program. The team will be looking to win their 11th district championship in a row. To this date, the DSA volleyball team has not even lost a district match in the history of the program. Last year, the team won a tight five set thriller in the championship match against Chaminade-Madonna. That is the closest the team has come to not winning the title. For this year, the Sharks should again be the one-seed heading into the district tournament. The primary competition will be the Spartans of Miami Country Day. They are having a fantastic year and have a solid team. The entire district tournament will be hosted by DSA this week with the quarterfinals on Monday, the semifinals on Tuesday, and the Championship on Thursday. Again, all three of those district tournament matches will be held on campus in the Shark Tank. God-willing the team will be able to come out on top to win their 11th district championship in 11 years of FHSAA competition.”

“We are hoping to advance from districts to regionals with both teams, and we have a good chance of doing this. We have one more meet before districts, so we are focusing on some intense workouts and then tapering from there so we are well-rested for the district meet on November 2nd.”

“The team is ready to pick up where we left off at last year’s Districts. We finished in 3rd place last year and are looking to win it this year for the first time in DSA history! This will also be the first time a girls’ team has competed at Districts. We are ready to make some history. The boys went to Regionals last year and did not finish strong. We are looking to get back to Regionals and make up for last year. We have never sent a team to State. Just individuals – most recently Nicole Sardinha and Daniel Vanososte. I expect big things from both teams starting with Districts.”
