Gallego and Cardenas Lead Divine Savior Academy to Victory


After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Reagan, Divine Savior Academy was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 38-23 victory over the Downtown Doral Dolphins. The Sharks haven’t had any issues with the Dolphins recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Leading Divine Savior Academy to victory were Claudia Cardenas and Gabriella Gallego. Cardenas posted 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Gallego went 7-for-17 en route to 16 points and five steals. Those 13 points gave Cardenas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evie Hoppe, who put up four points and eight boards.

Divine Savior Academy’s first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Downtown Doral, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Divine Savior Academy will head out to face off against Florida Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Downtown Doral, they will venture away from home to challenge Reagan at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
